The Ledger

Privacy Policy

What we know about you, why, and what we will never do with it.

The short version

  • We keep what the game needs: your name, your email, and your play.
  • We never sell your data, show ads, or track you across other sites.
  • Our analytics are cookieless and aggregate. The only cookie we set keeps you logged in.
  • You can read, change, quiet, and delete your data yourself in Settings.

What we collect, and why

  • Your Warden name. Chosen by you at signup. Other players see it, so pick one you will answer to.
  • Your email and password. The key to the gate. The password is stored hashed. We never show your email to other players.
  • Your play. Folds, Wardens, and every game event. The game is an append-only record. That record is the game.
  • Post preferences. Which letters you want and which you have quieted.

That is the whole list. No location, no contacts, no device fingerprinting, no data bought from anyone.

Cookies and analytics

We set one essential cookie: your session, so you stay logged in. Nothing else. Visits are measured with Plausible, a privacy-first tool that uses no cookies, stores no personal data, and counts pages in aggregate. There is no ad tech anywhere on the site.

Who touches the data

A few services run the game on our behalf, each seeing only what its job needs:

  • Hosting: the game runs on cloud servers in the United States.
  • Email delivery (Mailtrap): sees your email address to deliver the Steward's letters.
  • Content delivery (Cloudflare): carries the site's traffic.
  • The Advisor's AI (cloud AI service): sees your Steading's numbers to write its counsel, and does not train on them. More in AI Transparency.
  • Analytics (Plausible): aggregate page counts only.

We never sell or rent your data to anyone. There is no one else.

What other players see

Your Warden name, your per-Fold aliases, your Standing, and your public deeds: battles, oaths sworn and broken, placements, and Marks won. Fold names and Warden aliases in active public seasons also appear on public watch pages. Your email, your Stores, and your Whispers stay behind the walls.

Your controls

  • Change your Warden name and email in Settings, any time.
  • Quiet any kind of letter in Settings, or with one press from the letter itself.
  • Delete your account in Settings. It is permanent and takes your account data with it. Game events that named your Warden remain part of other players' seasons, without your account behind them.
  • Want a copy of your data, or have a question these words do not answer? Write to [email protected].

Children, and changes

Barrenfold is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep their data. If we learn we have some, we delete it. When this policy changes we post the new version here with a new date. Big changes get a line in the Steward's letters.
